Supporting Seven Ponds

Memberships

The activities of Seven Ponds Nature Center, including many educational programs for children, depend largely on memberships for funding. Your financial support is necessary to continue these important services.

However, there is much more to membership than the satisfaction of giving children an unforgettable outdoor experience. A membership at Seven Ponds Nature Center is like having 468 acres of clean lakes, inviting woodlands and colorful fields for your personal use.

Membership entitles you to these privileges:

Annual Membership Dues:

 Benefactor  $1,000 or more
 Donor  $500
 Sustaining  $250
 Supporting  $100
 Contributing  $75
 Family  $40
 Individual  $30

Corporate or group memberships are welcome. Memberships are renewable May 1. Payment is deductible within legal limits for U.S. income tax purposes.

Volunteers

Seven Ponds depends on the generous help of volunteers to provide many of our services. Voulunteers help with teaching, mailings, trail work, garden work, bird box monitoring, fund raising, and a variety of other tasks. Please check with the nature center for current projects. The following volunteer groups meet and work at the center on a regular basis. Your participation is welcome!

ASNATS

Classes are held on Saturdays and start at 9:30 a.m., unless otherwise noted, and usually run to 12:30 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. Coffee, tea, and a snack are provided and you are welcome to bring your lunch to eat with the group. Classes are open to Assistant Naturalists only. If you would like to become a part of this fine program, contact Lois Rheaume at 810-796-3200.

Classes are open to those enrolled in our Assistant Naturalist Teaching Program. Interested individuals can call Lois Rheaume at 810-796-3200 for more information on how you can become involved.

Field Trip to Upland Hills Ecological Center
Saturday, September 20

Today we will visit a site which demonstrates many examples of alternative energy. From solar and wind power to green roof living, we will see how folks can live "green." We will be car pooling to Upland Hills which is located approximately 10 miles from the nature center.

Michigan Trees
Saturday, October 11
Tree identification as well as some very interesting natural history information will be the focus of this last Assistant Naturalist class of 2008.

Field Trip to Haehnle Memorial Sanctuary
Saturday, November 1, 12:00 p.m.
This afternoon we will travel to Haehnle Sanctuary near Jackson, Michigan to enjoy many aspects of this large Michigan Audubon property. We will leave Seven Ponds via car caravan and arrive at Haehnle in time to view sandhill cranes feeding in nearby fields, learn about conservation efforts in this large preserve, and to observe hundreds of cranes returning from the fields to their evening roost at dusk. A single whooping crane also visited the sanctuary last fall and we will hope that this bird returns to Haehnle. Bring a day pack with binoculars, water bottle, snacks, and raincoat. We will plan on stopping at an area restaurant for supper and return in the evening.

Garden Volunteers

Our gardens are a beautiful focal point during the summer months for learning and reflection. If you are interested in doing general garden maintenance for the Butterfly Garden, Herb Garden, or the Woodland Wildflower Garden conact the nature center.

Stingers

The Women's Auxiliary of Seven Ponds, or Stingers, perform much rewarding work for the nature center and have a lot of fun. They meet on the first Monday of each month, April through October. Meetings begin at 11:30 a.m. and bring a brown bag lunch (coffee and tea are provided).

Friends of Seven Ponds

The Friends of Seven Ponds meets on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the nature center. The group plans fundraising events to support the center's educational activities. Current projects include a booth at Heritage Harvest Days. New members are welcome.
